BankID when you have just arrived
Without it, almost everything gets complicated — bank, electricity, insurance, classified ads, public services. And what blocks it is not always what you think.
- D-number
- SUA appointment
- BankID

The wall
In Norway, BankID is the key to daily life: it opens online public services, the bank, electricity contracts, insurance, and even the messaging on classified-ad sites. Without it, every step goes through paper, a counter, or someone willing to make an exception.
At the bank counter
Passport, employment contract, identity number, know-your-customer forms: the list grows as the appointment goes on. Then, at the end, comes a requirement that almost no guide mentions — and which, if it has not been prepared beforehand, sends you home.
The questions you are going to ask yourself
- Do I really have to wait for the fødselsnummer?
- Which bank, and with which documents when you have just arrived?
- What is in the know-your-customer forms, and how do I document the origin of my funds?
- What has to be ready before the appointment so as not to leave empty-handed?
